Is it ego or spirit?

I’ve attended reiki trainings and workshops for healers, and without fail a brave voice asks the question that plagues many of us: “How do I know if this is my ego or ____ (insert spirit, the universe, source)?” It’s a question that I’ve yet to hear a satisfying answer to. I’ve heard teachers vaguely say “you just know” and “it feels different” to them. Other responses include them offering examples of how the messages can’t be ego since they had a specificity to the answer that they had no possible way of knowing.

I offer, does it matter?

Does it matter if the message is from ego, intuition, spirit, or your experience? If the message you are delivering is one someone needs to hear, and you deliver it with kindness and as an offering for them to ponder, the origination of the message is inconsequential.

The intention behind the message has to be to help this person, that is more important than where it comes from. So many coaches and leaders in the space speak more loudly or try to prove their worth when faced with this question and others, as more people try to rationalize healing and find some transparency in an opaque space.

I challenge new and experienced coaches and healers to look to their intention with messaging and their delivery as a guiding North Star.
